What does it mean to be submerged? Undoubtedly, surrendered and immersed. Not for anyone else, but entirely for yourself. Take a minute and really think about it. Was it the peace and quiet during your morning shower, the only respite from children? Or, was it reading a good book before bed. Maybe it was the commute to work, windows down, the radio blaring. Don’t focus on the amount of time. Instead, simply begin to take the plunge. Add to your day, things that make you happy.
When I started my business in 2012, I had no idea what the future held. I was full of doubt, uncertainty, and worry. How will I be able to do it all? But, the desire to create only grew stronger. Every new session I booked or finished shooting gave me so much joy. I felt fulfilled and incredibly happy!
Yes, there are dirty dishes in my sink. Dinner will be frozen pizza or leftovers. My washer has day-old wet clothes from a completed cycle. I have pressed start on my dryer twice this morning. Okay, maybe more than twice.
Yet I am fulfilled.
Today, I have uploaded clients galleries, worked on new graphic designs, researched locations for future shoots, and pinned lots of amazing ideas on Pinterest.
Still, I am fulfilled.
As a young student, I would write story ideas and inspirational quotes. I kept my notebooks close at hand. Those days, I wanted to become a famous author. My creative process is the same today. I have notebooks with sketches: future graphic designs. I have pages filled with session ideas. The creative process is a unique and very special experience. It has been freeing to embrace these feelings again and to create. The reactions of my clients as they view their final images, and as they hold their prints to cherish, swell my heart with pride. I surrendered myself from mom guilt, and selfishly regained my footing as a professional artist.
Now, I ask you to do the same. Submerge yourself in something familiar, maybe from your past. Or, challenge yourself to try something new. No matter what you chose, know from my experience, that you are worth it.
Be brave. Be bold. And for goodness sakes, just be you.
